Event Details

We invite Brick & Wonder members, their teams, and industry guests to join us for this public panel, in partnership with Passive House Accelerator, which will explore current opportunities and challenges in Facade Renovation and Retrofits, with a focus on NYC.

Local Law 97 will increasingly levy fines on developers and owners who are not retrofitting older buildings to make them more energy efficient, but the capital expenditures needed to complete these complex projects are vast, and the path to a return on these investments is not always clear.

Hosted at Brickworks New York Design Studio, we’ll hear from an interdisciplinary panel bringing financial, municipal, owner, and designer perspectives to bear on a thorny issue at the center of NYC's built environment future.

To achieve the state's goal of carbon-neutral building stock by 2050, the lion's share of the work falls on 85% of that building stock which is already built today, bringing legacy buildings into the twenty-first century.

Moderator:

Michael Ingui is a Partner at Baxt Ingui Architects, located in NYC. Baxt Ingui is a highly collaborative architectural design firm that consists of a number of talented architects and teams, most of which are also Certified Passive House Designers. Michael is active in the Passive House community, speaking at many national and international conferences. The team at Baxt Ingui has extended their collaborative efforts by opening their homes during construction to teach architects, tradespeople, homeowners, and developers to integrate better building techniques.

Panelists:

Chris Benedict is a licensed Architect in New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Washington D.C. She is a graduate of the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at The Cooper Union in New York City. Before starting her own architectural firm in 1995 she managed retail, commercial, and residential projects for four architectural firms in New York City. Chris is a sought-after public speaker and has presented her projects nationally. She teaches about energy efficiency and sustainable practices to Architects, Engineers, students, and Contractors.

Free tickets are available until Wed April 26th at 12p ET.
