Light Management Mastered

Understand how glare causes user discomfort from glare
Develop design strategies to connect building occupants to the outdoors while controlling heat and glare

Enhancing Thin Masonry Veneer: Metal Support Systems

This session will examine the design and performance of metal backing systems that mechanically support thin masonry veneers. Join us to compare various systems and traditionally laid face brick masonry as well as review critical design and installation factors.

You'll also learn about performance tests that establish code compliance for proprietary thin veneer support systems and explore strategies for water penetration, structural performance, thermal efficiency, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 285 approval.

Learning Objectives

1. Discover water management strategies for mechanically supported thin masonry veneer systems.
2. Analyze veneer support methods for mechanically supported thin veneer systems.
3. Explore requirements for supporting thin masonry veneer over continuous insulation.
4. Learn how thin masonry veneer systems comply with building codes

Have you achieved licensure between December 2023 and December 2024? The AIANY Women in Architecture Recognition Award honors one recently licensed woman architect who demonstrates strong leadership skills and a commitment to the growth and advancement of our profession. The selected recipient receives a $1,000 stipend towards travel and miscellaneous expenses at the AIA Conference on Architecture, which will be held in Boston on June 4–7, 2025. The winner will be announced at this annual holiday party which provides an opportunity to hear from the recently licensed women and network with the Women in Architecture committee and colleagues from the design community.

The recently licensed candidates will be invited to introduce themselves and give brief remarks on their path to licensure.
